Not quite extinct.
The American Chestnut was considered the redwoods of the Eastcoast. They were magnificent beings until a blight killed most of them.
Surprisingly, about three years ago, a hunter found an 85-year-old American Chestnut in the Coverdale preserve, Delaware.
The preserve only offers guided hikes to this tree, so each time I show up with a pencil and paper, and spend the short -yet precious time with the tree trying to capture its vibration.
