Intrigued by the concept that clay holds memory, I wondered — who’s memory?
Vessels are also holders of memories. As found in excavations, what was stored in them gave us an insight into that community and our past.
This work explores evoking memory: the clays and ours. First, by inviting the clay’s memory to help guide the shape of the vessels. Then ours, by potently evoking a sense of memory just beyond our grasp when viewing the vessels.
I choose the black iron-oxide glaze to enhance the sense of timelessness and high gloss glazes to remind us of the present.
